2006 Car

CAD representation of the 2006 SURTES car
The 2006 car was entered into the class 2 competition.
The design was based on a CBR 600 F3 engine and used a Quaife differential originally designed for a Quad bike that was mounted on the rear of the chassis. A lot of the design bares resemblance to that of a Westfield kit car both in design and the sharing of parts.
The chassis was manufactured at the Farnborough College of Technology along with the wishbones and a lot of the suspension components. Its construction was never completed due to a lack of detail in the design, of leadership and of general determination within the team. Despite a general concern with the quality of both the chassis design and its manufacture it did however enter class 2 and a mock up of the final construction was in attendance. Its design was not particularly well received and the overall result was last position, it was however a result and allowed the team to experience and to learn from the competition. The Faculty Advisors for the 2006 SURTES Team were Dr Eddie Moxey and Prof. Mark Gillan.
