Welcome To Team SURTES
Team SURTES is proud to represent the University of Surrey in the annual IMechE Formula Student competition. Team SURTES (Surrey University Racing Technology and Engineering Solutions) was founded in 2006 by a group of students from various Engineering Departments, including Aerospace, Mechanical, and Electronic Engineering all sharing an unfaltering passion for motorsport. Since then, the University has produced three SURTES teams, with this being the fourth.
The team is named after Mr John Surtees (MBE), born 1934 in Surrey. He remains the only man to have won both motorcycle and F1 car World Championships.
Last year the team produced our first fully fabricated and functional prototype that was taken to the competition and came 2nd in Vehicle Design Class 2.
The target for this year is to dramatically improve last year’s design by reducing the vehicle weight by an optimistic, but achievable 30% (roughly 60kg). By developing upon last year’s entrance and conforming to all imposed Formula Student rules set for 2009, we hope to produce a lighter, faster and more efficient prototype to compete in Class 1.
Currently the Team SURTES are preparing for the Class 1 stage of the competition and are building their race car named STAG 09.
